NFL Update: Giants vs Cowboys Kicks Off Season

NFL HQ – We are now just three days away from the start of the NFL regular season. On Wednesday, the 2012 NFL season kicks off as the visiting Dallas Cowboys go up against the Super Bowl Champion New York Giants. For us, this is the marquee match-up and here are the talking points in our NFL Update:

JPP of the New York Giants.

Who will step up in Jason Witten’s absence? With Witten recovering from a preseason spleen injury, the Cowboys are looking for someone to step up in the top target’s absence. Even though Witten returned to practice yesterday he is still questionable for the regular season debut. Dez Bryant is some one who could step up in the Pro Bowl tight end’s absence. Bryant has a lot to prove with all of his off the field issues this could be Bryant’s chance to do right.

Will the Giants defensive line show their dominance and play with Tony Romo? Last season the G-Men’s defensive line was their strong point of their defense. The question is… was it a one time fluke? And will teams better prepare for the Giants four defensive end sets. In my opinion no. New York has some of the best pass rushers in the NFL making them a force to be reckoned with every week. Jason Pierre-Paul will lead the defense to another season of greatness.

Will Tony Romo show up? People tend to think Romo is an elite quarterback in the NFL, however I do not. An elite QB doesn’t fumble a snap for a game winning field goal in the playoffs like Romo did against the Seattle Seahawks in 2006. Romo is also yet to win a playoff game as a Cowboy. Wednesday night will be a great test for Romo and I would love to see him step up and take down the reigning Super Bowl Champions.
