NFL Picks & News For Rugby Heads

WASHINGTON, D.C. – Nothing beats it. After 16 weeks, it all comes down to this. One final weekend to pick winners and losers to determine my overall regular season record. Currently I’m sitting pretty at .500 with an overall record of 26-26.  Another undefeated weekend would be a sure-fire way to end the regular season. Now on to my NFL Picks & News For Rugby Heads.

Chicago Bears (9-6) at Detroit Lions (4-11): This has been an extremely disappointing season for the Lions. After last year’s playoff push, the record they sport is atrocious. If the Lions could pull of this victory at home it might just make the off-season a little bit brighter for Detroit knowing that the ended their NFC North rival’s season. A victory could also save Head Coach Jim Schwartz his job. However…
My Prediction: 27-21 Bears

RGIII has been the key to the Washington Redskins miracle season.
RGIII was the key to Redskins miracle season.

Green Bay Packers (11-4) at Minnesota Vikings (9-6): This game means a lot more for the Vikings than it does for the Packers. The Packers have already clinched the NFC North and with a win, the second seed in the NFC for the playoffs. However, the Vikings need the win to find themselves sitting pretty in the playoffs. Like the Bears, they are 9-6 and if they lose and Da Bears win, the Minnesota will be left sitting at home. I think Vikings quarterback Christian Ponder is the chink in the Vikings’ armor and might just cause them a spot in the playoffs.
My Prediction: 44-21 Packers

Dallas Cowboys (8-7) at Washington Redskins (9-6): This is the highlight game of the weekend. It is the battle for the NFC East. RG3 verse Tony Romo. America’s Team verse America’s New Team. Personally, I’m a big fan of Robert Griffin III and expect him to torch the hurting Dallas defense. It will be a fun one to watch though! A match-up to keep your eye on is Dallas WR Dez Bryant against Washington corner DeAngelo Hall.
My Prediction: 24-17 Redskins

Buffalo Bils running back CJ Spiller is the cornerstone the the Bills organization for years to come.

And now for some NFL NOTES!

BLACK MONDAY nears! Tomorrow is what is called in the football world, Black Monday. And though we’re down here in D.C., it’s got nothing to do with the Fiscal Cliff. Instead, this is the Football Cliff – the day that many NFL head coaches and GMs lose their job. As you may know, I’m a Buffalo Bills fan. With that, here’s a prediction: Coach Chan Gailey, General Manager Buddy Nix and Defensive Coordinator Dave Wanstedt will be axed and replaced by Jon Gruden, Bill Polian and current Kansas City Chiefs coach Romeo Crennel. Oh, by the way… Did I mention that it will be announced that Hall of Famers and Buffalo Bill legends Jim Kelly and Thurman Thomas will be announced as the new owners? Yup.

AP All Day! Minnesota Vikings Pro Bowl running back Adrian Peterson is attempting to catch Hall of Fame running back Eric Dickerson’s single season rushing record of 2,105 yards. Currently Peterson is 208 yards from the record, but don’t worry, he’ll put up 210 yards on Green Bay back in Week 12. So yeah, he can do it. Good Luck AP!
