ALBANY,NY – Having you been wondering what’s up with Jarryd Hayne? Well, we have some new information!Hayne1

The last we had heard from Mr. Hayne, the Detriot Lions had seemed to pass on the idea of adding the former NRL star. But Hayne’s luck has changed.

When Detroit Lions general manager Martin Mayhew was talking to the press Wednesday at the NFL Combine, he confirmed that the two sides are talking.

During Mayhew’s press conference, he was asked a question about the status of former defensive coordinator Gunther Cunningham and Hayne.

This was his response:
Gunther we’re in dialogue right now about his future with us. Jarryd Hayne, same thing.”

Hayne2Sure it was a brief response, but it was something. Something is better than nothing. The fact that Mayhew answered a question about the negotiations with Hayne and his representatives at all is a positive sign for the rugger. Most general managers would keep that information quiet, so they didn’t tip their hand to other teams around the league.

However, Hayne’s situation gets a little interesting. The dual-sport athlete’s biggest supporter on the team is running back Reggie Bush, and Bush’s status with the Lions is a bit uncertain. The running back’s 2015 salary will cause a $5,2777,777 cap hit to the Lions’ salary cap.

Considering Bush’s injury history, it’s not the ideal situation. Many believe that Bush could be cut in order to savereggie-bush-jarryd-hayne_pg_600 cap space, or he could restructure his deal. With the amount of talent in the upcoming draft class, there are other options for Detroit to turn to.

If Bush isn’t with the team moving forward the former Parramatta Eel would lose one of his bigger supporters. And Bush is someone who could help Hayne adjust to his new lifestyle in the U.S.

One thing is for sure… It’ll be an interesting couple of weeks. Either way, it still looks like Hayne has a bright NFL future ahead of him. Stay tuned!
