RWU HQ – Former NRL star Jarryd Hayne had a minor setback this past week.Hayne4

The San Francisco 49ers running back had to undergo a minor surgery for a cyst on the arch of his left foot. According to Hayne’s Instagram post on Friday, the dual-sport athlete will have his foot bandaged for the next 12 days.

“24 hours post surgery! Already irritated and annoyed that I can’t run around n be active. 12 days left being bandage,” the post read.

Luckily for Hayne, this is the perfect time to have the surgery. With minicamps over and players away for their teams for the next month and a half or so, Hayne will have plenty of time to fully heel.

Hayne 5Not only will the former Parramatta Eel be able to rest, but he’ll have ample time to study film and his technique. The one knock on Hayne thus far had been his high pad level. A high pad level provides a bigger target for defenders, making the ball carrier easier to tackle.

“Obviously my running style is the biggest thing I have to change, being so high,” Hayne said, via The Mercury News. “We watched some video of where I was to where I am now, it’s better but obviously a lot more I need to improve.”

But it must be pointed out, that even with having to battle his injury throughout minicamp and the high pad level, Hayne still impressed his coaches.

“Now you’re starting to see his speed show up, as he’s attacking the line, running his tracks and feeling more Hayne3comfortable,” San Francisco 49ers head coach Jim Tomsula said.

The dual-sport athlete will be one of the more intruging rookies to keep an eye on when training camp opens up this summer.
