NFL To Rugby 7s: Chad Johnson

Continuing our hypothetical NFL To Rugby 7s series, next up, we’ve got wide receiver Chad “Ochocinco” Johnson. Wouldn’t it be great if Johnson couldn’t find a team, hung up his helmet and turn his focus to the rugby pitch? Granted the chances of that happening are pretty slim, but still it’s nice to have some fun and imagine!

Do you think Ochocinco has what it takes to play rugby?

Chad Johnson (New Position: Fullback/Wing) The enthusiastic wide out is currently floating the free agent market and has been for the last year after his failed audition with he Miami Dolphins. Recently the 3-time All-Pro receiver has been on a media tour on various ESPN television shows making his case for another shot in the NFL. Ochocinco has had a rough time in the NFL as of late. Two seasons ago Johnson had a quiet year in New England; in which he accounted his worst season statistically, only recording one touchdown. After New England, Ocho took his talents to South Beach where he only stayed with the Dolphins a couple weeks. With the charismatic wide receiver’s NFL career in jeopardy, now may be the best time for Chad to transition to rugby as any.

From a rugby perspective… Johnson is known for his great speed and hands. Known as one of the greatest receivers of his time, Johnson possesses Hall of Fame hands. Fullbacks are known for their great set of hands and a good leg, which are all attributes of Johnson’s game. As far as Johnson’s great hands go, he has twice lead the AFC and once the entire league in receiving yards. As for good kicking skills, Johnson has both kicked off and attempted a couple field goals in his NFL career. The former Cincinnati Bengal also earned a four-day trail with Sporting Kansas City of Major League Soccer. This makes Chad Johnson a great fullback.

What do you think?
