NFL Predictions For Rugby Fans

The NFL is finally back. Which means… My weekly predictions are back as well. If you remember last year each week I would choose three games each week and predict the winner. Last season I finished with a record of 28-27 and I’m looking to improve my record this season.

But before we get to my picks… Here’s my Super Bowl prediction… Atlanta Falcons over the Houston Texans; 35-27. I was close to choosing the Denver Broncos as my AFC representative but I believe Houston’s defense is better than Denver’s. Time for my picks!

New England Patriots at Buffalo Bills: It’s a new era in Buffalo and something feels right about an upset in this game. After an impressive preseason for Buffalo’s rookie quarterback EJ Manuel, I’m more and more convinced that they chose their franchise quarterback for years to come. Not only do the Bills have the next hot quarterback in the NFL, but they have an electric running back in C.J. Spiller and a young receiving group lead by savvy veteran Stevie Johnson. On the defensive side you have a tremendous defensive line lead by Kyle and Mario Williams and a couple of cornerstone defensive backs with Jairus Byrd and Stephon Gilmore.

New England’s times might be numbered and without Tom Brady’s weapons, it’ll be interesting to see how this offense operates and defensively, I’ve never been impressed with their squad. I smell upset at The RalphBills: 42-31

Green Bay Packers at San Francisco 49ers: This was a playoff match-up last year and may be once again this post season. This game feature two of the most popular quarterbacks in the league with Green Bay’s “Discount Double Check” Aaron Rodgers and San Fran’s young gun Colin Kaepernick.

Does Mike Vick still have it?
Does Mike Vick still have it?

As much as I’m shaky on Kaepernick as an NFL quarterback because he’s yet to play a full season, San Francisco’s defense is flat out nasty. It’ll be interesting to see what Kaepernick can do in the air with limited options on the outside. There’s no doubt the 49ers QB can beat teams with his feet, but I want to see him do it with his arm. 49ers: 31-24

Philadelphia Eagles at Washington Redskins: What better way to kick off Monday Night Football with a divisional game?!? This match-up features the new age mobile quarterback with Washington’s Robert Griffin III and the old age mobile with Eagles quarterback Michael Vick.

This game is truly a toss up. Is Washington the better team? Yes. However, RGIII is yet to face live competition after missing the entire preseason. So I am going with the Eagles mainly for that reason. I think it’s going to take Redskins’ offense a few drives to get clicking and at that point the Eagles may be off to a big enough lead where they’ll be able to trade touchdowns the rest of the game and bring the “W” back to Philadelphia. Eagles: 34-31
