New York, NY – Our Weekend Rugby Wrap-Up is usually one piece, but there was just way too much rugby to cover to not divide it up into several parts this weekend. This part is all Women’s Rugby.
Las Vegas Invitational 7s: With the next stop on the IRB Womens circuit not taking place til the end of March, a few of the teams close to Las Vegas entered teams in the Elite division of the Las Vegas 7s Tournament. In case you were not aware, along with the IRB Mens 7s matches there is an actual tournament occurring. The US put in two sides along with a combined Armed Forces side, Canada put in two sides, while Japan, Argentina and Trinidad & Tobago put in developmental sides. The two Canadian sides faced of in the Cup Final as they proved too strong for everyone else. Argentina walked away with the Bowl and the two USA sides finished with one side winning the Plate and and another taking 3rd place over Japan.
Here are the scores:
Combined Services 0 – 19 Argentina Bowl Final
USA Stars 14 – 0 Emperor’s Atlantis Plate Final
USA Stripes 21 – 5 Japan 3rd/4th
Maple Leafs 1 26 – 0 Maple Leafs 2 Cup Final
Women’s 6 Nations: The world of 15s rugby was left shocked and speechless this weekend. Number 1 ranked England were left crushed and shutout by a rampaging Ireland side. Ireland were lead by a hat-trick hero Alison Miller. England appeared to have no answer for the Irish attack or able to regroup to threaten the Irish throughout the whole game. Scotland have yet to score this 6N as Italy were rude guests and clung on to win in a tight affair. Wales also remain scoreless as France showed them no mercy. This 6N is now as wide open as it has ever been, so there will be a lot to play for when action kicks off again in 2 weeks. Here are the results:
Scotland 0 – 8 Italy
Ireland 25 – 0 England
France 32 – 0 Wales
