HOUSTON, TX – If there’s any doubt that rugby is finally taking hold in the United States, it was dispelled by the sellout crown at BBVA Compass Stadium for the exciting match between Team USA and Ireland. It was an excellent weekend for IRB Rugby, as 20,000 fans roared for both teams.
With surprisingly large numbers of their supporters making the trip across the pond, Ireland held on against a sturdy but just unlucky Team USA.
Both organizations as well as AIG and the folks at BBVA Compass Stadium deserve credit for a fine showing that left everyone thoroughly entertained.
Our crew of Matt McCarthy, Johnathan Wicklow Barberie and Declan Yeats was there and Matt was fortunate enough to be on the sidelines just after the hooter to speak with Lou Stanfill, Eagles’ captain Todd Clever, fullback Chris Wyles and scrumhalf Mike Petri.
Here’s the interview with the big man, Lou Stanfill:
And in case you missed it, here is the the interview with Captain Clever.
