Former Lock Daniel Adongo NFL Update

Remember when former Southern Kings lock Daniel Adongo signed with the Indianapolis Colts back in July and made the active roster in December? Well guess what!?! The former rugby star is still with the AFC South Champs and has positioned himself nicely going into the Organized Team Activities (OTAs) this spring.

From rugby to football, Daniel Adongo continues to find success.
From rugby to football, Daniel Adongo continues to find success.

Earlier this week, Colts.com writer Craig Kelley was answering questions from fans, and one question concerned the latest rugby-to-football superstar.

Mike C., from Indiana, asks… “How is Daniel Adongo shaping up?  He has size, speed, athleticism and seems to be a hard worker.”

Here’s what Kelley had to say… “Daniel is doing fine and it will be fun to see him in April when players return.  His physical attributes are just what you say, as is his ethic.  He seems to be a work that is accountable to teammates (above all else).  The 30 pounds he put on last year to get to 270 is good weight.  He left with a mindset to continue to sharpen himself physically (not that he wouldn’t have done it on his own anyway).  To see him work through the spring will be one of the big attractions for a lot of us, and I think you’ll like seeing how Daniel will go.  I hope his progression leads him onto the field defensively.”

Those are some strong words from the Colt’s team journalist. At the end of last season, Adongo had worked his way to third on the depth chart at right outside linebacker. With All-Pro OLB Robert Mathis holding down the top spot, it will be hard for the rookie to start on the right side. However, a spot is definitely attainable on the left side of the field at outside linebacker. Erik Walden is currently the starting left outside linebacker, but he was a bit of a non-factor in 2013. If Adongo wants to start on the Colts’ defense, left outside linebacker may be his spot.

Indianapolis’ OTAs will be fun to watch! Look for an update on Daniel Adongo’s situation later this spring.
