RWU HQ – Jarryd Hayne is about to take a giant step forward Saturday night.Hayne9

At 8 p.m. EST, Hayne will make his NFL debut with the San Francisco 49ers. And the 49ers are prepared to throw Hayne to the wolves.

“We’re definitely going to use him on all facets of the game: running, catching, fielding on special teams, whatever,” said offensive coordinator Geep Chryst, via the Mercury News. “And at the end of the day, we’ll know more about Jarryd, but it’s exciting.”

According to the Mercury News, Hayne is expected to split time at running back with Mike Davis and Kendall Gaskins once the starters are out of the game.

With his aggressive running style – which you can thank rugby for – Chryst is excited to see the dual-sport athlete’s play in training camp translate on the field against an actual opponent.

Hayne7“He had a run yesterday where, here’s another football phrase, he ‘put his foot in the ground’ and went north,” said the OC. “I think he did that because he had confidence that it wasn’t just a fog of bodies and that there’s going to be some contact.

“But, he’s been running through contact pretty much his whole life, so I’m really excited to see him play in the Houston game as well.”

It’s also expected that Hayne will play a factor in the 49ers’ punt return game as well.

The 49ers are taking on the Houston Texans, in Houston, Saturday night.

Check back Sunday for an update on how the former NRL star fared in his first game.
