ST PETERSBURG, FL – Some excellent rugby talent assembled for the first-ever HR7s (Halloween Rugby 7s) and we were fortunate enough to be there. And aside from sunshine, great costumes in a cool beach town, we were luck to have Argentina’s Los Pumas 7s Captain Gaston Revol, the tournament’s MVP, come on camera with our Matt McCarthy.
In the following clip, Gaston – known to many as “The Little General” (quoting always-smooth/eloquent/colorful play-by-play man Dan Power on this), talks about the high-quality squads like Team Canada and the 6 USA-based teams, defending lightening bolts Perry Baker and Carlin Isles and handling the $10,000.00 prized money.
In an effort to launch professional 7s in the USA, this was a major step and demonstration of some big-time chutzpah on the part of Karyne Bazanno, Ed Goren, Jay Abraham and the AR7s crew; putting their money where the mouths are. And that’s more than we can say about any previous entities that have talked about professional rugby union leagues to date.
Kudos, Karyne. We look forward to your future events.
And thanks to Mr. Revol, who got up early in the morning to come on-camera with us, the morning after the tournament party. He is a true ambassador of the sport.
