The Atlanta Rhinos will host the Tampa Mayhem this Saturday, June 25, in a match-up between two Southeast (SE) Division USA Rugby League (USARL) teams. The clubs will play the game on the Rhinos’ home pitch, Atlanta Silverbacks Park, at 3200 Atlanta Silverbacks Parkway, Atlanta, Ga. This match will kick off at 3 p.m.
This game serves as the third for each club so far in the 2016 USARL Season. Atlanta (0-1-1) opened its season with a 28-28 tie against the Central Florida Warriors on June 4, followed by a loss to the Jacksonville Axemen 32-22 on June 11 at Silverback Park. Tampa (1-1-0) started off with a 24-16 win over Central Florida on June 11, but followed that with a 32-0 defeat at the hands of Jacksonville on June 18 at Jacksonville’s home pitch – the University of North Florida (UNF) Soccer Complex.
Mayhem Coach Payney provides Tampa’s take on this weekend’s game
Tampa Mayhem Captain and Coach Daniel “Payney” Payne provides Tampa’s take on this weekend’s match against the Rhinos:
We [the Tampa Mayhem] are excited to be heading up to Atlanta this weekend they knocked us out of the competition last year on their way to the National Championship game. So we are definitely looking to get one back on them. Atlanta is always the toughest trip of the year to make, but hopefully we come away with the two points and can get back in the win column after a lackluster loss last week to the Axemen.
Rhinos Captain Newlin discusses Atlanta’s preparations for the Mayhem match
Atlanta Rhinos Captain Nickolas Newlin commented on his club’s outlook going into this weekend’s Mayhem match:
The anticipation for this week is huge. It was odd to have a week off so early in the season but it has helped some of our [Central Florida Warriors] guys heal and really concentrate on hopefully getting our first win of the year this weekend against Tampa. We have had a bit of up and down start to the year, but need to get on the right track before July 4 and get back to our winning ways of last year. We will have a few guys making their Rhinos debuts on Saturday so the challenge is laid out for this week.
