Eagles make three changes to starting lineup with opportunity for one new cap to be awarded from the bench. #USAvCAN
HALIFAX, N.S. – Less than one week ago, the U.S. Men’s National Team was making history for the second time this year. After a thrilling 30-29 upset of No. 6 World Ranked Scotland, the Eagles earned their largest victory in 94 years. Now with one final test of the Summer this Saturday (June 23) against No. 22 rival-Canada, the United States (No. 15) will make three adjustments to the starting lineup and offer the chance for one new cap to be awarded in an exciting June finale at Wanderers Grounds. The match kicks off at 3 PM ET, LIVE on FloRugby.
With Joe Taufete’e returning home for personal reasons, Dylan Fawsitt will start at hooker. Ben Landry will step in for John Quill — who continues his recovery from a lower body injury sustained against Scotland — while Nate Augspurger jumps in at wing and Marcel Brache switches over to center. Newcomer Vili Toluta’u can earn his first international cap as a reserve, as well.
PODCAST VERSION:
“Our result last week was due to the incredible hard work that the guys put in, and the huge respect we had for Scotland. Tactically, we followed our game plan and prepared for the right level of intensity which is what we intend to build on this week,” said Head Coach Gary Gold. “However, that game is now in the past and we face our old foes who we know are really well-coached and will be prepared, especially as this is a massive home game for them. The reality is that this Canadian team have a huge amount of pride and have a lot to play for as they are still focused on qualifying for Rugby World Cup 2019, and we need to respect that.”
Following their historic upset of Scotland last week, the Men’s Eagles set a new record by extending their overall win streak to 6 games in international test matches. The team hopes to remain undefeated on the year as they approach their final game of the Summer and 60th all-time against rival-Canada this Saturday.
The Canadians currently sit at No. 22 in the World Rankings and take the pitch after suffering losses to Scotland and Russia earlier this month. The Eagles’ northern neighbor will be thirsty to earn their first win of the Summer in front of a home crowd; equally meaning the Americans will have their work cut-out for them as both teams re-ignite a thrilling, life-long rivalry at Wanderers Grounds in Nova Scotia.
