JERSEY CITY, NJ – The much-bandied about cliche about America, slumber and giants is and has been the fodder for many a live debate. But what is not up for debate is that High Schools are now playing rugby in places that mafia types used to dump bodies. Particularly in places like Jersey City, home of Lady Liberty. How do I know this, you ask? I was born in Jersey City. I’ve been to the Dark Side. And schools like Hudson Catholic with Terry Matthews at the helm, and Mike Fletcher’s St. Peter’s Prep. It’s even safe for non-residents to visit these days, and Pat Moroney’s Christian Brothers Academy Colts stampeded up from the Jersey Shore to clash with the city kids. We were there to capture it and speak with the principals. Oh, and Seattle Seawolves star Brock Staller steals this one – barely – from the Father & Son Sheehy. Check out the clip and comments from 2-time USA Rugby Coach of the Year Steve Lewis and yours humbly.
