NEW YORK, NY -In advance of its 2023 season, Premier Rugby Sevens (PR7s) has launched the Rugby Sevens Rollercoaster Podcast with World Rugby commentator Dallen Stanford and international rugby coach Robin MacDowell. The debut episode (https://youtu.be/xqjbVM9ShNE) was released on all major podcasting platforms and features interviews with American rugby sevens stars Perry Baker and Naya Tapper.
“We’re here to take you on the ups, the down, the twists, the turns that is Premier Rugby Sevens,” said Stanford in the first episode of the Rugby Sevens Rollercoaster Podcast.
MacDowell added, “We themed this podcast after a rollercoaster … for all of the athletes playing 7-on-7 on a full-sized field … for the coaches holding their hearts on the sidelines … and obviously for the fans, it’s the most exciting game in the world.”
In addition to being a recognizable voice for World Rugby broadcasts around the globe, including the Rugby World Cup Sevens in 2018 and 2022, Stanford has provided the play-by-play for multiple PR7s tournaments since the league was founded in 2021. MacDowell helped lead the Northern Loonies to the inaugural women’s PR7s Championship as assistant coach of a squad that featured USA Rugby star Alev Kelter. In 2023 MacDowell assumes the head coaching responsibilities for the women’s Loonies.
As a 2-time Olympian and World Rugby Sevens Player of the Year, Baker led the men’s Rocky Mountain Experts to the inaugural men’s PR7s Championship in Memphis. In episode one of the Rugby Sevens Rollercoaster Podcast, Baker spoke about his relationship with Danny Barrett, Kevon Williams, and other USA Rugby stars who have participated in #PR7s.
On the women’s side, Tapper starred for the Southern Headliners shortly after leading Team USA in the Olympic Games in Tokyo. In the podcast’s first episode, Tapper speaks about being a trailblazer for the sport and competing at the highest levels.
PR7s tournaments will bring the famous rugby sevens festival experience this summer to Austin at Q2 Stadium (Saturday, June 17), Minneapolis at TCO Stadium (June 24, 2023), San Jose at PayPal Park (Saturday, July 15), and Pittsburgh at Highmark Stadium (Sunday, July 23). The top teams from each conference will qualify for the 2023 Championship tournament, which will take place on Sunday, August 6. The championship venue will be announced soon.
