The RWU Six Pack is comprised of West Ghana’s Rugby Rain Man Junoir Blaber, England’s Knight of the Realm Jamie Loyd, East Midlands’ Machiavellian Rugger Nick Hall, the infamous Ireland National, Declan Yeats, the Irish-born, Castres-residing, lean(ish), mean(ish) writing machine, James Harrington and contrived Kiwi Co-Host, Johnathan Wicklow Barberie.
LONDON, ENGLAND – The fifth and final round of Six Nations Picks are over and a champion has been crowned. Our Six Pack “Experts” were in agreement practically all the games. The staff were perfect in their Picks of the Week …
The matches this round featured two blowouts and one incredibly tense affair. The two early fixtures of Italy versus England and Wales versus England were massive blowouts. There were over by halftime and that is putting it generously.
France against Ireland started out tense finished even more tense. It wasn’t a classic performance by BOD, but the boys in green gave him a great farewell. There were several members of the staff experiencing nightmares of the New Zealand, 2013 match in Dublin. No one could believe that today of all days was when the French decided to show up. The Six Pack members all more than covered their point spreads for the Pick of the Week, so there were smiles all around on those.
Here is the revised picks spreadsheet with the results of the match-ups. Incorrect predictions are in red.
Harrington: 13-2, with the bonus of getting the Pick of the Week right and taking his Pick of the Week record to 2-3. The winner of the Six-Pack Six nations pick is none other than the French based, leanish, meanish writing machine. He picked his Irish heritage over his current residence and lets not forget his very accurate Pick of the Week however, he finished last in the Pick of the Week stakes.
Blaber: 12-3, with the bonus of getting the Pick of the Week right and taking his Pick of the Week record to 4-1.The man who likes to address himself in third person as Junoirdamus had another perfect week but he could not bounce back from the tough round 3. He was confident that Scott Johnson‘s Scotland would not play well enough to win. Picking Ireland to win was a tough call but he stayed loyal to BOD. For his Pick of the Week he picked an easy one in England has got himself tied for best Pick of the Week record.
Loyd: 12-3, with the bonus of getting the Pick of the Week right and taking his Pick of the Week record to 3-2. The Englishman had a a quality weekend. He went undefeated again. He must have taken some pride in being so close to finishing first. It appears that the Scotland win in Round 3 was the key difference maker. He once again went back to England to help him finish above .500 for his Pick of the Week record.
JWB: 11-4, with the bonus of getting the Pick of the Week right and taking his Pick of the Week record to 4-1. The contrived Kiwi with an Irish mum had no choice but to back BOD‘s in his final international. He also got the other 2 picks right but, there was no way he could make up the ground lost to Harrington as they both had the same picks. He can at least enjoy the 3 way split for best Pick of the Week record.
Yeats: 11-4, with the bonus of getting the Pick of the Week right and taking his Pick of the Week record to 4-1. Yeats’ was all emotional during the France-Ireland game, yelling at the screen. Then he got a bit misty eyed as BOD and the boys celebrated. He was emotional in a whole new sense over his Pick of the Week record. By France not covering the spread last week by one point, he was denied a perfect record and has to share the best record with Blaber and JWB. .
Hall: 10-5, with the bonus of getting the Pick of the Week wrong and taking his Pick of the Week record to 3-2. Mr. Hall in his attempt to not finish bottom of the heap, did the direct opposite and finished last. He went against the mighty BOD and for that he paid the price. He backed England and Wales in the two blowouts but that blasphemy he committed against the Irish is what ensured him to finish last. He at got his Pick of the Week correct though to at least not finish last there.
