BOSTON, MA – Before we get into my NFL Picks, we have an exciting Hayden Smith NFL news for Rugby Heads everywhere: Smith was finally promoted from the practice squad by the New York Jets late Friday night after the Jets cut newly-signed wide receiver Jason Hill. After losing Jeff Cumberland to a dislocated wrist, the Jet were short a tight. Gang Green worked out a couple of tight ends this week but also gave Smith more work on the offense. And guess what? After coming over from Australia to play Division II basketball at Metropolitan State in Denver, and then walking on and starring for Team USA and Saracens in rugby, 6’6″ Hayden Smith will be suiting up for the New York Jets at tight end for this weekend’s match against the Miami Dolphins. Oh, and did we mention that he put football pads on for the first time in May? Congrats, Hayden. Your story is nothing short of historic. Here’s the first half of it:
THAT part is amazing enough, now add in the NFL part. It’s mind-boggling.
Okay… Now for my NFL Picks! Last week I went 2-1 improving my overall record to 11-11.
Atlanta Falcons (6-0) at Philadelphia Eagles (3-3): Honestly, if I were to pick the undefeated Falcons to lose a game this would be the one. The Falcons are coming into Philly at the wrong time. After firing their defensive coordinator Juan Castillo and everyone in media doubting their quarterback, the Eagles will be looking to prove everyone wrong.
My Prediction: 28-21 Eagles
New York Giants (5-2) at Dallas Cowboys (3-3): A victory in this one will give the Giants complete control of the NFC East. Never count the Giants out as long as they have Eli Manning under center. This should be an easy one for the G-Men, because let’s face it… the Dallas Cowboys are a duck sitting on a pond.
My Prediction: 30-14 Giants
New Orleans Saints (2-4) at Denver Broncos (3-3): Part of me wants to root for the Saints in this one, just because of everything they’ve gone through this year. But I’m sorry, they aren’t going to pull this one off. It is very tough to go into Mile High and take a victory from the Broncos and with Peyton Manning at the helm, it gets even tougher.
My Prediction: 31-24 Broncos
