Continuing our hypothetical NFL To Rugby 7s series, next up, we’ve got the All-Pro outside linebacker Von Miller. Wouldn’t it be great if Miller was to to hang up his helmet and turn his focus to the rugby pitch? Granted the chances of that happening are slim, but still it’s nice to have some fun and imagine!
Von Miller (New Position: Prop): The Denver Broncos defensive force splashed on to the scene last season and has been performing at an extremely high level ever since. The Texas A&M grad was the second overall pick in the 2011 NFL Draft and won the AP NFL Defensive Rookie of the Year in his first season. Unlike many rookies, Miller did not lay an egg in his second season in the league and earned his first First-Team All-Pro nod of his career.
From a rugby perspective… Miller is just a smidge bigger than your prototypical Rugby 7s prop-at 6’3″ 245 lb., but hey the bigger the better right!? And I’m not talking big as in bigger but slower and less athletic. I’m talking 4.5 sec. 40-yd dash and 21 bench presses of 225 lb. bigger! Props are considered to be the strongest men on the field and considering Miller’s strength for his size, I’d say he fits the part. Not to mention Miller has a 37 in. vertical jump, which means he has massive legs. Massive legs means Miller would be great at pushing scrums!
What do you think?
