NEW YORK, NY: It seems each year that the Six Nations disappears from the international scene just as it is lighting a beacon for Northern Hemisphere rugby. This year’s championship has been as competitive as any in recent memory, and the fourth round is likely to prove decisive in a number of respects.
Wales and England’s match at Twickenham obviously highlights the schedule, but Scotland has a legitimate chance to shock a much-changed French side, while Italy and Ireland will make for a fearsome spectacle in the scrum. While the Rugby Wrap Up Six Pack has begun to separate, this weekend may prove to be determinative in the race to prove the best predictor.
Ireland vs Italy
BLABER: The Irish will bounce back and trounce the Italians to expand the lead by points difference. (Pick of the Week)
HARRINGTON: No contest. Sorry, Italy.
YEATS: The Boys will bounce back and blow the pasta eaters away, fueled by a proper Irish Breakfast
LOYD: Tight first 50 minutes should be forgotten about when the Irish hit top gear in the final third.
HALL: The Irish’s big opportunity to run up the margins and really put the pressure on England for Sunday’s match and in the final round
JWB: The Italians will be beaten like veal before Parmagianing (a new word). Irish chefs, the most-maligned group outside of Jewish Sports Legends, will rejoice everywhere! (Pick of the Week)
Scotland vs France
BLABER: Despite it all, France has enough individual talent to beat Scotland. Scott Johnson was lucky against Italy.
HARRINGTON: What Mssrs. Lloyd and Blaber said… (Pick of the Week)
YEATS: France are my second favorite team and Scotland my fourth so by that math, France should win. (Pick of the Week)
LOYD: Even a French team who are still incredibly inconsistent should be able to take advantage of a Scottish team that is just simply bad! (Pick of the Week)
HALL: The Irish’s big opportunity to run up the margins and really put the pressure on England for Sunday’s match and in the final round
JWB: The Scots will fight hard for the Murrayfield faithful, but the result won’t be there as the lazy French win easily.
Wales vs England.
BLABER: England at home. No Steve Walsh reffing, Robshaw being denied his rightful place in the Lions… All 12 Welsh Lions on display. All of this adds up revenge for England.
HARRINGTON: Who should win the Six Nations this year, and Gatland’s mind games this time appear less confident this time than in recent years, it’s going to be tighter than tight this one, but Twickenham should take England over the top.
YEATS: Never the English, and never shall I support the Red Rose, Let’s go Cymru!
LOYD: Another grafting effort from England should see them win, their defence against Ireland was spectacular and more of the same should blunt the Welsh attack.
HALL: The home crowd will hopefully be able to carry their boys home…insufferable as the RFU’s social media barrage can be. .(Pick of the Week)
JWB: Wales look to be back to where they were last year… But this should be a dandy, with injuries being the difference. Tuilagi will be fun to watch.
