NEW YORK, NY – We cover all rugby here, including the YRS (Youth Rugby Scene). Here’s an update from a few of the teams:

League:  District School Board of Niagara Junior Flag Rugby
Report: The James Morden Public School Mustangs Junior Flag Rugby Team (grades 4 to 6) from Niagara Falls won the District School Board of Niagara Junior Flag Rugby title this Fall. The Mustangs finished the season with a record of 10 wins, no losses and one tie. In the championship tournament they defeated Kate S. Durdan 9-4, Grand Avenue 15-1 and Greendale 8-2. In the semi-final they defeated Prince Phillip 3-2 in overtime. In the championship, James Morden downed Grapeview 6-4. This is the Mustangs’ second school board title in three years. USA Rugby’s assistant women’s rugby coach Luke Gross stopped by to check out the tournament and met some of the kids.

Rye Youth Rugby is in the running for a $20K Prize
Two weeks ago, the players of Rye Youth RFC created a video as a submission to the 2014 AIG Rugby Safety Awards on the importance of safety in the sport. Today, their video was awarded one of the six award slots worldwide as the North American/US finalist and won $5,000 for their team!!

The video is now in the running for the sole top prize of $20,000 to be decided by viewers. The submission that receives the most votes wins the $20,000 grand prize. You can only vote once per day but you CAN vote daily through November 25, 2014.
