RWU HQ – Boy how the tides do turn in the NFL.
After sitting out last week’s matchup against the Seattle Seahawks inactive, San Francisco 49ers running back Jarryd Hayne could get his first opportunity at extending playing time in the NFL.
With starting running back Carlos Hyde ruled out for Sunday’s game against the St. Louis Rams, the former NRL star could see some serious time in the backfield. Hyde is missing the game due to a stress factor in his foot.
The absence of Hyde leaves the 49ers with Reggie Bush, Hayne and Mike Davis as the only active running backs on the roster. Considering Bush hasn’t been all that healthy this year and Davis has had the least work out of the three, Hayne should see some extended time in the backfield.
While Bush will get the first crack Sunday, expect Hayne to get see his fair share of opportunities as well, especially in short yardage situations.
Also, expect to see Hayne return to the 49ers’ return game. At this point in his career, Bush cannot start at both running back and punt returner.
