NEW YORK, NY – Pigs aren’t flyin’ and we’re not sure if snowballs are being thrown in Hell, but something nearly as impossible is very likely; professional rugby on American soil. That’s right, PRO Rugby, headed by CEO Doug Schoninger and Director of Rugby Steve Lewis, is scheduled to kickoff on April 17, 2016. Ready with questions asked by USA rugby fans that have been teased with failed previous professional launches, our Matt McCarthy was fortunate to sit with the accommodating owner of the fledgling league.
In a candid chat over pints at the Pig -N-Whistle on 36th in NYC, Schoninger gives answers re:
-Who he is.
-Where the money is coming from.
–USA Rugby and RIM (Rugby International Marketing) involvement.
-League plan.
-Partners.
-Venues and broadcasting for matches.
–Women’s Rugby
-Coach and player pools.
-Co$t for fans.
–Rugby Canada
