GREENWICH, CT – In a battle of USA High School rugby powerhouses, Greenwich High School’s Cardinals celebrated their 30th anniversary by outlasting Xavier’s Road Warriors, who celebrated their 40th anniversary in their Manhattan gym last month, 34-29. Afterwards, both coaches, Greenwich’s Joe Kelly and Xavier’s Greg Norris, spoke with our Matt McCarthy.
Quick backstory before you watch: The match was nearly a blow-out early, as host Greenwich bolted to a 20-7 lead. Xavier came roaring back to take a lead late, however, as the heavyweight programs exchanged counter-punch after counter-punch, making for an exhilarating finish, in front of a large and boisterous crowd. Oh, and it was also only the second time the Cardinals beat the Road Warriors in the 30 years they’ve been knocking heads.

Bottom line, it was a great night for rugby in the USA. Want more? Here’s a great write-up.
