Press Release

ATLANTA, GA.Rugby ATL’s inaugural 2020 MLR season is just around the corner and Rugby ATL is itching to take the field. The third season of Major League Rugby will be one you will not want to miss. With much attention on the newest teams, Atlanta’s newest professional sports team Rugby ATL has mutually agreed on parting ways with Tiger Rugby and James Walker, the franchises former staff member.

Scott Lawrence, Head Coach & interim General Manager, along with other Rugby ATL staff say, “we would like to thank James for his contributions to the naming of the team, hiring of the initial coaching staff, and player acquisition as part of his time as our inaugural General Manager.”

Valenese (Nese) Malifa, who was brought on by James and has been a Tiger Rugby coach and player for many years, will remain with Rugby ATL as an Assistant coach. Now wearing the whistle and just as he played, Malifa will ensure the defense system of Rugby ATL pushes the PACE, phase count and meters of those who deny ATL’s game plan.

“We would like to recognize James Walker and Paul Holmes and their efforts to conduct Tiger Rugby camps in Atlanta, GA, Greensboro, NC and Bradenton, FL, assisting our staff in key player selections and we look forward to seeing future Tiger Rugby Camps”, says Scott Lawrence.

Owner of Rugby ATL, Marcus Calloway, says, “we are excited for our inaugural season and strong leadership with the franchise’s CEO & President, Robert Taylor, and Head Coach & Interim General Manager, Scott Lawrence.”
