RWU HQ – San Francisco 49ers running back Jarryd Hayne has already taken the NFL world by storm, but there’s a good chance he could take even bigger step this weekend against the Baltimore Ravens.
While the 49ers “fully expect” starting running back Carlos Hyde to play through his foot injury Sunday, he’s not entering the game healthy. Hyde was a limited partcant in practice Thursday and was only seen doing positional drills during the portion of Friday’s practice open to members of the media.
“His foot’s hurt,” 49ers head coach Jim Tomsula said Friday, via 49ers.com. “His foot is sore, so they put an orthotic in there and I know you’ve got to get used to wearing the orthotic. … So, they are doing that. Fully expect him to play and those things, but I know we have to manage it.”
And with backup running back Reggie Bush expected to be out, Hayne could see an increased role in Sunday’s game plan.
“This is his fifth game ever playing football in his life, and I think sometimes we lose track of that,” 49ers special teams coordinator Thomas McGaughey said, via 49ers.com. “Each week he’s getting comfortable. He’s starting to understand the game a little bit more on offense and special teams.”
Considering the dual-sport athlete is facing a rushing defense that is outside of the top 15 league-wide, Hayne could shine if he gets the opportunity.
The 49ers kickoff against the Ravens 4:25 p.m. EST.
