RWU HQ – For the first time in his NFL career, San Francisco 49ers running back Jarryd Hanye has faced a setback.
The former NRL star was inactive Thursday night when the 49ers faced NFC West rival Seattle Seahawks. This was the first time in his NFL career that Hayne was inactive.
While starting running back Carlos Hyde was banged up, he played through a stress fracture in his foot.
And with Bruce Ellington and Reggie Bush both able to go for the 49ers, and capable of returning punts, Hayne became the logical choice to have sit out, especially considering he muffed another punt last week.
But instead of getting down on himself, the former rugger is taking the game day roster move in stride.
“You can prepare and you can study as much as you want but obviously, game intensity and game day intensity is different,” Hayne said, via ESPN.com. “For me, I’ve embraced every challenge and I’ve been ready when my name is called upon.
“For me, it’s about going out there and learning and being grateful to get the opportunity to be out there and … learn the game. You’ve got to remember, it’s just my (sixth) game so, for me, it’s still a learning process. I keep telling you every week I feel more and more comfortable out there.”
It’ll be interesting to see what the 49ers do next week when they travel to St. Louis to take on the Rams on Nov. 1.
Considering San Francisco ended up losing to the Seahawks, don’t be surprised if the coaching staff decides to plug Hayne back into the starting lineup to give the return game a spark.
