Ben Gollings Names 4 Toughest 7s Players; Lauds Serevi

VANCOUVER, BRITISH COLUMBIA – Admittedly, the Rugby Gods are smiling down on RWU. That’s the only way we can explain our good fortune of following up our Peter Tiberio interview with Johnathan Wicklow Barberie’s sit-down with England Rugby star Ben Gollings, the IRB 7s all-time leading points scorer!

Moreover, Mr. Gollings proves to be as stellar on mic as he was/is on the pitch, immediately clicking with JWB for a fast-moving, amusing and refreshingly honest 3-minutes-and-change in which Big Ben opens up about being retired, analyzes the 4 toughest players he’s had to line up against while representing England for so long and finally, talks about his new adventurers with the Rugby Lions Football Club and humbly salutes Fiji Rugby legend Waisale Serevi, with whom he’ll finally get to play with this weekend in Vancouver. That’s right, history will be in the making when these two rugby legends get to forget about foiling each other when they pull on the same jersey for the first time at the Serevi Vancouver International Rugby 7s.

The event kicks off Friday and we’re checking flights and rearranging schedules in a last-minute attempt at witnessing this epic pairing of play-makers and prolific scorers. If you have any way of getting there, by all means do! This will truly be a special pairing of two of the game’s greats. Hopefully, it won’t be their last time out there together…

Now for the interview

Maybe the next Serevi Vancouver International Rugby 7s will see Gollings and Serevi taking the pitch with an all-star squad those Ben names on-camera. Imagine Tomasi Cama, Alafoti Faosiliva, Dan Norton, Mathew Drew Turner & Cecil Afrika all wearing the same kit…

We’ll leave you with that. Please feel free to comment and pass this around to your mates and you can updates on our Facebook Rugby Wrap Up Page (please “Like” it) and follow us on Twitter @RugbyWrapUp.

Bravo with Big Ben! You’re right, he’s as smooth on camera as he is on the field. Love how he categorized!

Faosiliva looks like he catches pianos for a living. We met him at the Vegas 7s – a must tourney – and made sure that he liked us… He could squash our head like grapes with two fingers.

My problem would be trying to catch all those rabbits like Cama, Turner, Norton and Afrika… The big fella I’d just make trip over me.

Having met Ben in person, he is a very approachable (and vertically Challenged) guy. I didn’t realize him and Serevi were so close to the same height.

He looks like Ringo and Dustin Hoffman’s son – if the kid worked out.

That is solid. Cama is going to go down as best player ever if he stays healthy. Gollings had a great career though. Seems like good bloke.
