“I had my first refereeing sodomy in the (2010) semi-final against Clermont. I’ve just had my second tonight.”
BIARRITZ, FRANCE – There was some great rugby this weekend, despite Aironi doing their best to make certain Italians turn their backs on the game, what with their 82-0 loss to Clermont in the Heineken Cup’s Round 5 match. But there were some tres magnifique matches, specifically in France.
Biarritz at Saracens: This one was a doozy! Big hits, a rare occasion of Team USA stars not only playing against each other (Chris Wyles for the Sarries & Takudzwa Ngwenya for the French guys), but also being considered impact players, and some darned cold weather! Il fait frois in Watford. But Saracens held on and now can advance with a win at Treviso next. And somebody tell Biarritz that those kits are a fashion faux pas!
Edinburgh at Racing Metro: Staying with bad fashion choices for a minute, even Sebastian Chabal can’t make that powder blue and white ensemble look manly enough for us to not get a tad ticked about them dressing like tennis players. Maybe it was fitting then, that the invading Scots, who were dressed in black and red, won on a heavenly drop goal by a God-man, as in John Godman.
But perhaps the most exciting match of the weekend was the slug-fest between Top 14 squads, Clermont Auvergne and Toulon. This one had star players Aurelien Rougerie & Morgan Parra getting into scraps, Johnny Wilkinson being well… Johnny Wilkinson, yellow cards, haymakers and the worst call by a referee when Christophe Berdos sent David Smith to the Sin Bin for intentionally knocking the ball playing defense. It was not the case, as Smith was clearly going for the ball – and almost caught it. In the end, the yellow and blue held fast but not long after, Toulon President Mourad Boudjellal had these gems to say re the reaming:
“I had my first refereeing sodomy in the (2010) semi-final against Clermont. I’ve just had my second tonight. It appeared to hurt the first time but it was just as bad this time. We will review the images not on Youtube but on YouPorn. Clermont are a great team. They did not need it.”
Gotta love the French!
