RWU HQ – By the end of the preseason, San Francisco 49ers rookie running back Jarryd Hayne had become a household name in the United States.
And with the news that the former NRL star has one of the NFL’s top selling jerseys from Sept. 10-21, it seems that Hayne is really rising in fame.
“Never thought I’d be along side such great talent,” Hayne said in Instagram post early Saturday morning. “I don’t look at this as an achievement. I look at this as a result of a man who put his faith into action, which has inspired so many. I never set out to inspire people, I never set out to motivate people, I simply put life in perspective n lent on the only person I new had the power to get me through this rocky road. I truly believe people buy my jersey not because of the person that wears it but because of the story/journey behind it.”
The former Parramatta Eel ranks fifth on the list, just one spot behind New England Patriots Pro Bowl tight end Rob Gronkowski.
Hayne has six carries for 16 yards and one reception for seven yards through San Francisco’s first two games. The dual-sport athlete has also been a factor in the 49ers’ return game, registering two returns for seven yards. However, Hayne did fumble a punt return in his regular-season debut.
With starting running back Carlos Hyde probable to play Sunday against the Arizona Cardinals, Hayne could see added reps in the backfield.
It’ll certainly be something to keep an eye on this weekend.
