Jacksonville Defeats Tampa 32 to 18, Credit Allene Rachal

TAMPA, FL — This weekend, the Jacksonville Axemen and the Southwest Florida (SWFL) Copperheads wrapped up their regular seasons with wins. On Saturday, 27 July, Jacksonville defeated the Tampa Mayhem 32 to 18 on the University of North Florida’s Rugby Fields.

Also on Saturday, the Southwest Florida (SWFL) Coppereheads defeated the Lakeland Renegades 42 to 12. SFWL hosted Lakeland on its home turf at Lehigh Senior High School.

Per the 2019 schedule, the Atlanta Rhinos regular season ended the previous Saturday, 20 July. For last Saturday, the focus phrase: wrap up regular seasons with wins.

In the Jacksonville v. Tampa match-up, the first half’s score was almost even, at 22 to 18.

For the Jacksonville Axemen, Josh Jackson, David Washington (twice), and Hunter Lawson scored tries. After the tries, Nathan Richter converted three of the four kicks that brought Jacksonville up to 22 points.

With the Tampa Mayhem, Aussie brothers Ben and Daniel Payne, and Scotty Garren scored tries. Following each try, Jay Kissick successfully converted all three of them. For Tampa, this totaled to the team’s 18 points for the half, as well as for the game.

For the final 40 minutes, Jacksonville’s David Thomas and Khalial Harris added tries toward their team’s final score. Wrapping up the Axemen’s points for the game, Nathan Richter converted the first of the two ties to defeat Tampa 32 to 18. Finishing up again, last Saturday’s focus phrase: wrap up regular seasons with wins.

USA Rugby League South Conference Playoffs Start Saturday

In the first round of the USA Rugby League (USARL) South Conference (SC) playoffs, the Jacksonville Axemen have the first seed.

After Jacksonville, the Tampa Mayhem has the second seed, the Lakeland Renegades hold the third, and the SWFL Copperheads own the fourth.

As previously mentioned, the Atlanta Rhinos withdrew from the 2019 USARL SC post-season.

So, Saturday, the Jacksonville Axemen (1) host the SWFL Copperheads (4) at UNF. Further south, the Tampa Mayhem (2) holds a home game against the Lakeland Renegades (3) Saturday at Tampa Catholic High School.

On the following Saturday, 10 August, the winners of the match-ups will play for the USARL SC Championship. At this time, the most likely location for the game is on the Jacksonville Axemen’s home field at UNF.
